Cleveland, as an old industrial city, carries a strong and weighty historical character, but that also makes it a place in need of new forms of public activity to activate everyday urban life. PLAY! Community Weekend was designed with the intention of bringing new energy to the city through a festival system that feels more open, welcoming, and participatory. Centered around markets, performances, workshops, and family-friendly interactive experiences, the project brings together communication, on-site wayfinding, and event engagement into a visual system that is clearer, warmer, and more inviting.
[Event Identity]
The event identity for PLAY! Community Weekend introduces a brighter and more playful visual language to Cleveland’s industrial urban context. Rather than assigning fixed meanings to each shape, the system uses modular patterns, bold color, and flexible composition to create a lively and welcoming visual atmosphere. Together, these elements bring a sense of freshness, energy, and accessibility to the festival across posters, signage, and other public-facing applications.
[Environmental Graphics]
The environmental graphics extend PLAY!’s visual identity into public space, transforming walls and large-scale surfaces into bright and welcoming festival touchpoints. Using modular patterns, bold color, and repeated graphic elements, the system brings a stronger sense of energy and visibility to the site while reinforcing the event’s playful and community-centered atmosphere.
Booth & On-site Applications
This section applies the PLAY! identity to booths and on-site festival elements, creating a more cohesive and engaging physical experience. Through consistent color, graphic repetition, and flexible layout, the system helps each booth feel connected to the larger event while making the festival environment more lively, accessible, and easy to navigate.
Merchandise
The merchandise extends PLAY! beyond the event itself, turning the identity into a set of portable and memorable objects. By applying the same modular graphics and bright palette across small-scale items, the system carries the festival’s playful energy into everyday use while strengthening its visibility and sense of community.
Promotional Applications
Promotional materials adapt the event identity into posters, announcements, and campaign graphics that help build visibility before and during the festival. The use of bright color, flexible composition, and repeatable patterns keeps the communication energetic, consistent, and easy to recognize across formats.
